Glad That's Over...

He's back. Jeff just finished his last camp and flew in this afternoon. Luckily, he was able to fly out before the hurricane hit (and all of the travel cancelations) he was also far enough north that he didn't really feel the earthquake- (he was in Connecticut this week).
Glad to have him back!

He was glad to be back too...he even agreed to have some fun with photobooth with me- he usually just says no and walks away.

Yeah for Three More Years!!!! In Texas!

the countdown to 2014  begins....
Three more years people.....three more years until Jeff will be done with school forever.
I'm not sure who is happier....on one hand Jeff hates school more than anyone I've ever met, and on the other hand I do not have a huge tolerance for whining/complaining about things you just have to do and have found that my "you can do it honey.." turns into "suck it up" rather quickly in the past two years in regards to his schooling...oh dear...lets just get through these next few years!
However, Jeff is also the HARDEST worker I've ever met and I've been blown away by his commitment to something he seems to hate so much. During the last two years he has worked and worked and worked and then worked some more for every single point/problem/paper/test/grade and has gone above and beyond to make sure he reaches his goals. When we first met he had no clue what he wanted to do with his life, and for some reason that didn't bother me. lol I just thought he was cute :)
The first time he met my mom and she asked him what he wanted to do once he graduated-
he told her he just wanted to work at 24 Hour Fitness all so he could play volleyball on their indoor courts in his spare time. Haha. Yeah, that happened.
To my mom's credit she never mentioned to me that maybe I should be thinking about the more logistical side of things regarding our future. I think she trusted that would have to occur naturally...ha.
Once Jeff and I got married he did start to think about our future and what he wanted to do...he went through phases and racked up hundreds of shadowing and volunteer hours(like I said, hard worker)
We finally settled on us both going to graduate school in Ohio. I found out I had been accepted to my grad program and Jeff had an interview set up for his- but then Jeff decided he wanted to change directions and he applied for a completely different program....in Texas.
What the what! At first I was against this and we weren't going to go- we were going to stick with our Ohio plan... but after we both thought about it and prayed about it, I felt that Texas was the place we needed to be- the decision to switch up everything just felt so good and so right that it ended up being easy to start all over again with all of our life plans- we're still at the beginning right? we still have time to switch things around! The only problem was that I hadn't applied to any grad programs down there....shoot. So while I'm still deciding what I'm going to do in future years...for now I'll (hopefully) find a job and make some money while I decide what to be when I grow up (I keep changing my mind now that I have any extra year to think about my future....garr).
SO...
for the next three years you can find us in this great state

to be exact...you can find us in DALLAS.
We are so very excited- one of the reasons we are so excited is that Jeff's sister and her family live in the area and I am so excited to be able to hang out with them more! They have two super fun kids and it will be nice to be close to family.

Here's a pic of Jeff's pretty new campus

Jeff will be going to Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas- the apartment we found (like only three weeks ago...) is in Coppell...which is pronounced in the snottiest way possible- it's CAH-PELLL not COP-EL like I keep saying. Cah-pell sounds too high-maintence, but I've already been corrected like five times by people I talk to on the phone so it looks like I'll have to get used to it.
Anyways...this was a wordier and more journal-esque post than usual, but I realized I hadn't exactly mentioned any of the whats and whys to the single biggest decision we've made so far as a married couple so yeah
- here's to the next three Texas filled years!
I hope we eat a lot of BBQ and that I find a killer pair of red cowboy boots.

*also if anyone has any suggestions about what I should do with my life for the next few give me a holler- when I think about applying to grad schools again I just get tired/depressed...

Best Cake Ever

Fact: I'm not a huge fan of cake.
Fact: I don't like Heath bars.
Fact: Last week I made this for my family and we ate it all in about 2 hours....
...and now I'm making it again.
Fact: This cake is the best. cake. ever.

just make an awesome brown sugar/ buttermilk type cake and add heath bar instead of frosting- it will blow your mind. and make you love cake and heath bar in case you're weird like me and didn't like either. love it-
and it goes fantastic with a diet coke.

oh yeah. it's official name is Heath Bar Cake. lol in case you didn't pick up on that.

I Love Color

I can't help it, when it comes to buying stuff for the house, color gets me every single time. I always think I should get something in beige or white when it comes to buying stuff for the house so we'll seem more grown-up. The only problem is I can never make it to checkout with my more "grown-up" version in an off white without something more colorful catching my eye.
Here are my recent colorful purchases for our new apartment:

And this is in addition to a whole bunch of other very colorful stuff. Awesome. Maybe I feel like I just need color around me since we're stuck with white walls while we're living in apartments? I dunno, buts that's my excuse. I hope this doesn't turn out to be too much though-
I'd rather our apartment didn't look like a clown threw up everywhere.
Oh well, at least our place will definitely be a reflection of me us!
(Jeff just nods and says cool whenever I show him stuff for the apartment :) He's very easy going when it comes to this stuff)
#nevergrowup

summer reading goodness

This week I'll be chillin in Boise while Jeff's all the way over in New York for camps. While Jeff's gone I plan on doing a lot of READING. I love me some summa reading. Lately I've been able to get Jeff in on the reading fun as well.
Last week I gave Jeff this book to read on the plane

He absolutely loved it. This is a great book, and a really easy read- also- as a warning, this book will probably make you cry; it's a tear jerker. The flight attendant on Jeff's last plane had to ask him if he was okay while he was reading it because he was starting to choke up. Tender.

This week I talked him into taking this one:

I loved this book and can't wait to see the movie. I'm not sure if he'll like this one, but Jeff loved The Secret Life of Bees, which surprised me, so hopefully he'll like this one too. If anyone has any good book suggestions- let me know! I'm always looking for new ones :)

South Fork of the Payette

Today my dad took Jeff and  me on a rafting trip down the South Fork of the Payette River. My dad is awesome and booked us a ride down a much more intense river than what I had asked for- he book us on the South Fork- and I'm glad he did because we had a great time! It was 6 hours of class 3 and class 4 rapids and a 6 ft drop waterfall. Our rafting company even had a photographer about half way through the day that took pictures.
We thought they were too great-

Check out Jeff's face! I'm sitting right behind Jeff, and my dad is on the other side in the back- my dad was being nice and let us ride near the front since he's been on this run a few times before.

Down we go! Jeff's going in, and I'm definitely looking stressed!

Yup, here we lost Jeff and the guy behind me

Thankfully we got everyone back in the boat! We almost lost Jeff a few times, but when we went through one special set of rapids there really wasn't much we could do as our whole boat capsized onto us. This isn't us (below), but it is what our boat looked like!

Jeff and I were on the right side, and in the middle of some class four rapids, the right side popped up and came down on top of us. At first I didn't panic at all and I tucked my feet in towards my chest and let my life vest pull me towards the surface with the plan to just ride it out, but I couldn't make it to the surface because the raft was on top me- it was also on top of Jeff- and that's when I started to freak out a little bit. When the raft tipped, the guy on my right had kind of fallen on top of me and pushed me pretty deep into the water- it also didn't really give me a ton of time to get a deep breath or anything. As the raft pushed me back down deeper into the water everything around me was black and I thought....crap, this is a legit way that people die!  I eventually made it to the surface, but as soon as I could open my mouth for air- a huge wave came over my head and I ended up swallowing tons of river water. Right about now is when someone grabbed me from behind and got me out of the tail end of the rapids. I thought it was the guide who had grabbed me, but nope- my knight in shining armor was none other than my hubs.
Awesome.
If you ever want to do a quick check on your loved one to see how he reacts in a life or death situation all you need to do is capsize your raft on the South Fork and see if he can fight the rapids and undertow to get to you- if he's lame, he'll bail and head for the shore. Thankfully, Jeff- who had also been sucked under and stuck for a bit as well- is not lame and was able to pop up and get above the water enough to spot me. From there I reminded him to pull his legs up (I was very into the safety lecture they had given us about turning yourself into a ball in case you fall out) and we rode down the river until we ran into the other raft in our group which had already picked up my dad. My dad scooped me out of the water and the guys at the front of this raft were able to grab Jeff. Whew! We were finally safe!
The guy sitting behind me on the bad side (my side) had been picked up by the safety kayaker  the river company has patrolling the "danger" areas. Other than some bruises and scrapes and a nasty goose egg on my dad's shin, we were okay! By the time we reached the end of our run, I was a little sad- I actually wouldn't have minded going again! For the most part, it was just so much fun. I ended up having to cough up a lot of the river water I had swallowed, but overall I was just impressed that Jeff had found me and got us out of the worst of it! Thanks to Dad for such a fun and exciting day!
Pretty sure my adrenaline is still going strong.
